Project Title: The Alpine Wildlife Park Expansion

Location: Central Europe

Product Used: ZM-1220 Hand-Woven Stainless Steel Mesh Finish: Matte Black Oxide

When a leading European wildlife park decided to expand its walk-through aviary, they faced a classic architectural dilemma: How do you provide absolute security for over 40 species of birds while making the enclosure feel completely open to the public?

Traditional welded wire was too rigid and highly visible, obstructing the "natural" feel the park wanted to achieve. That is when they contacted the team at ZooMesh Factory.

The Challenge: Transparency vs. Durability

The project requirements were strict:

  1. Species Safety: The mesh had to be "beak-safe" for everything from small finches to powerful raptors. (See our Aviary Netting Solution Page for species-specific recommendations).

  2. Visitor Experience: The park wanted a "near-invisible" barrier to allow for professional-grade photography through the mesh.

  3. Weather Resilience: Located in a mountainous region, the mesh needed to handle significant snow loads without sagging.

The ZooMesh Solution

Our engineering team recommended our signature hand-woven mesh with a Black Oxide finish.

  • Custom Weaving: We manufactured the panels in heights of 12meters and widths of 25meters. By producing these extra-large custom panels at our factory, we eliminated 70% of the on-site seams.

  • The Power of Black Oxide: Unlike natural stainless steel, our chemically darkened finish absorbs light. You can learn more about this in our guide: SS304 vs. SS316: Which Grade Does Your Zoo Need?

  • High-Flex Construction: We used a 7 x 7 wire rope structure, providing the flexibility needed to wrap the mesh over the park’s unique curved steel support arches.

The Result: A 98% Transparency Rating

The installation was completed in early 2025. The results exceeded the park’s expectations:

  • Zero Injuries: The smooth, hand-woven knots ensured that even the most active birds could climb the mesh without feather damage.

  • Architectural Beauty: From a distance of just 5meters, the mesh becomes virtually invisible to the naked eye.

  • Structural Integrity: Following our Pro Guide on How to Tension Mesh, the installation team achieved a perfect "drum-tight" finish that successfully withstood its first winter season.

Project Specifications at a Glance:

  • Material: AISI 304 Stainless Steel

  • Wire Diameter: 1.2mm
